The second installment of the Great Wines of the Andes Asia, a massive event conceived by wine critic James Suckling, gathered 50 of the most important wineries from Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay in late May.
Santa Carolina participated in Beijing with two great Carmenères: Herencia 2011 and Reserva de Familia 2015, rated with 94 and 92 points, respectively.
Our Winemaker Director Andrés Caballero represented us and met with James Suckling to present him with a sample of our Chilean Heritage: a wine from Santa Carolina in 1959, our icon Luis Pereira 2014, whose production represents a perfect fusion between past and present, and Dolmen 2017, a Cabernet Sauvignon that grows on slate stones and expresses our innovative spirit. “James was amazed by the quality of the old wine of Santa Carolina. It is a wine that is 60 years old and in perfect condition”, he said.
Regarding the event, Caballero remarked that “we had some 200 visitors and we could see that there was great interest among Chinese consumers to taste our wines. We featured two different Carmenères, which was a very smart thing to do because Chinese palates love this variety and it marries very well with Chinese cuisine”.
